I am looking for a pink tomato for my farmers market for next year. This year I grew Arkansas Traveler, but they aren't big enough for a slicer. The flavor was a nice flavor though, so this is also important to me.

Have you any suggestions of varieties that were a nice size, good flavor and looked nice. PLEASE tell me of any to try or stay away from.

I normally grow a pink one called Ultra Pink. This has a very good flavor, looks nice and is a fairly uniform size for a slicer, BUT is VERY hard to grow as it is very blight susceptible. Which means .... SPRAY SPRAY SPRAY for a crop.

    Thanks

Brandywine is a really good pink tomato, and I think it is also an heirloom variety.

I'll be watching this thread too. I had success with 'Big Boy' this year and 'Beefsteak' in previous years. I'm always trying new varieties in my quest to find the perfect one :D

I like Abraham Lincoln, but if travelers were too small, it may be too.

I am partial to Olena's Ukrainian. Verja's Paradajz, Grightmire's pride, oh and I'll think of some other off list ones if a pm prods me awake.

Coppice, I think A Lincoln is red. Am I correct?

I have never heard of the other ones, though. Are they pink or red tomatoes? I am specifically looking for pink. Have you grown these and is the flavor good?

I see a new one called brandymaster pink, in my seed catalog, and one called pink wonder. I think I'll order these if no one has any suggestions, though.

Carolyn, Brandywine has a great flavor. I don't know how big it will get though. If it is big you want, it might not be a good choice, but I think it being an heirloom variety might make it a best seller. Many people want heirloom vegetables now.

This year I grew Mortgage Lifter a large pink beefsteak, it's known as much for its legendary history as it is for its size and dependability. I had some 2 and 3 pound tomatoes. Here is a video of me slicing one of my smaller ones. http://youtu.be/1J-oN5iCpN0 Caspian Pink is another delicious sweet heirloom tomato that originated in Russia's Black Sea region, this variety yields large 12 oz. pink tomatoes. I loved the flavor of these, however they are smaller than the mortgage lifter.

Thanks Rick, I have tried mortgage lifter but I think they are way too big for the baskets ( 1 qt size) at the market. I haven't tried the caspian pink though, Maybe I will give them a trial also, though.

I did too. Another great pink 'mater. I still think the Granny Cantrell is better.

Big enough to be a good slicer. 2 pounds is a good average.

I'm out of those seeds right now though, I really need to start saving seed!

5" would be a good average. Very beefsteak like.
