Saw on craigslist that someone here in my town wanted to swap flowering bulbs, so I contacted her.... turns out she only lives about 12 blocks from me. She was such a charming young mother of 2 little girls....she & DH had just bought the house & she's trying to landscape it on a shoestring budget. She had lots of red canna bulbs I wanted, so I can plant a solid line of them in the back for privacy from my unlikeable neighbor! LOL!I have "Sorbet" peonies (pink) & she had white, so we exchanged, got several dahlias from her. She doesn't know what colors, as they were a gift, but all dinner-plate dahlias. I took her really a lot of plants, as she's just starting out & I got that windfall of a truckload of plants for free! She was so happy. Took lots of daylilies, crocosmia, daffodils, iris,& i'd ordered 3 bulbs of canna "Wyoming" ( orange & copper-toned) so I took her one of those & a bleeding heart. Fun morning...we sat on her front porch with cups of coffee & talked gardening.

What a wonderful gardening experience, for both of you! You have made a new friend, and so has she. Gardens bring folks together, don't they?

Yes, it was a really nice morning. We definitely "clicked", despite the age difference.... (almost 35 years!) & have decided to visit back & forth to see how each other's gardens are doing & exchange more plants/bulbs, as we get them.

What an excellent way to spend a morning. I have a feeling that you two are going to be firm friends and that both your gardens will soon be flourishing.
