It struck me today that I rarely take photos of my non-blooming or non-significant-blooming plants. So here's some/most of them. Creepin' Charlie ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Bottlebrush Fern ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) And that other fern just grows wild (or naturalized) all around the house. Elephant Ears ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Fuzzy Wandering Jew ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Oxalis - Purple ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) African Milk Tree and Night Blooming Cyreus ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) I've had that Milk Tree since around 1982... that's THIRTY YEARS (it almost died a couple of years ago from the cold weather. I had one little leaf that survived and now it's back to around 3 feet tall. And finally... the chair with Creeping Charlie, Pinwiper Kalanchoe and Caladium... all being protected by Treacle The Bear and Sassy Marie The Dawg. Oh... and that purple one in the corner is the Persian Shield. Front Porch Plants ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Thanks for showing your lovely foliage variety. Odd, isn't it, that we show the blooms but forget about the foliage plants we've put in between for contrast? That bottlebrush fern looks scrumptious, and Sassy Marie looks like a very nice lady.
The "greens" are the unsung heros of the garden and patio, aren't they? There must be a certain amount of green to balance the plant situation out. You have such a nice collection of these. It was such a good idea to show your green collection.
I,too, love your Bottlebrush fern, your purple Oxalis and the Purple Shield. Foliage plants play a large part in my garden as they 'showcase' the flowers I have. So nice to see the variety of lovlies you have. :-D
love the bottle brush fern!! and whats the latin name for your elephant ears??? seen lots of them around work
Thanks everyone. I've got a piece of the bottlebrush fern that I accidentally broke off, in a vase trying to see if it will put on some roots. Lukey... I have no clue on the Latin name of the elephant ear. It's a piece I got from my uncle's house a couple of year ago.
Colocasia esculenta Colocasia esculenta 'Black Magic' (Black Magic Elephant Ear) and in the same Family but a different Genus is Alocasia x amazonica (African Mask, Amazon Elephant's Ear)
pretty, nice to see the non-flowers getting some attention! but since 90% of my yard is shade, I try to appreciate the greens. I am putting that bottle brush fern on my wish list.
