Today is Saturday - my usual day for spending outside. Not today. I had an accident at work yesterday so am spending today doing very little. It was a work related - gardening related accident. On most days, I am a municipal finance clerk. On some Fridays, I keep up the landscaping around city hall - planting, weeding, watering etc. Yesterday I decided it was time to prune some very overgrown shrubs on the parking lot perimeter. I was having a great time - actually getting paid for what I love to do. After lunch, I somehow managed to get my ring finger in the hand pruners instead of the intended branch. To make a long story short, I ended up in the emergency room at the local hospital and waited forever for my seven stitches. My husband seems to think I should stay out of the dirt today. The worst part of the whole thing is that I will have to fill out the accident report when I get back to work on Monday.
I'm so sorry you got hurt Polly . Yes, your hubby is correct on staying out of the dirt. You don't want that infected and not be in the garden for weeks ! Years ago a friend of mine was in her rose garden and got bird droppings in a cut. It wasn't a pretty site.
Ouch Polly :x That must have been a deep cut (pruners can do that!). Gizmo's advice was exactly what I would say as well, there is no point in risking weeks away from the garden due to infection for the sake of gardening now Keep safe!
I am spending the day sitting in the back yard looking through gardening books that I haven't had time to look at and find new ideas.
Sorry about your finger .Yes, stay out of the dirt.Infection would be really bad now .Would mess stiches up not to mention what it could do to your health.
Thanks for your concerns - two days later and I really want to get out in the dirt. I have to see the doctor tomorrow - we will see what he has to say.
That's a nice way to spend your time at least, I seem to never have time to sit back and enjoy the view. Of course, if I wouldn't spend so much time at GardenStew..............
