I was going to have a couple of plants and a friend said 'daddy (her) will have enough for him, us and his neighbors!' Ok... so I thought I would be having some good home grown tomatoes.

Now I found out I can't have tomatoes... doctors orders. I found out right before Christmas that I am in stage 3-Renal failure. The doctor is really cracking down on me. It is either follow a strict diet of NO salt and NO potassium, or be on the other end of a dialysis machine. I believe I can give the diet a good try. Other goodies I can no longer have are peanut butter, chocolate, cantaloupe, watermelon, and peaches. Oh well...

Darn it all! That's such a shame, but not to worry, as Droopy said there are lots of other things that you can eat, veggieand fruit-wise. And as for the tome....well, who says that you have to eat what you grow? You could get the pleasure of growing them sucessfully and be a big hit with whomever you gave the toms to.;)
I know that I get an enormous amount of pleasure giving some folks things from my garden each year. It's such a good feeling knowing that they appreciate my veg or cut flowers. There's no feeling like being appreciated.
You know that your friends here already appreciate you, but with giving away homegrown toms, you could branch-out. :)

Bummer!!! Why do illnesses always deprive us of all the things we'd love to eat. :( Still it's much better being healthy and happy and there are so many other goodies out there for you to try. :stew1:

That's tough news KG, sorry to hear about it. Shall you still grow tomatoes regardless?

Awww Kuntry, i'm sorry to hear that about your illness. But stick to the diet. You can do it. Like all the others have said, give them away, and just have the pleasure of growing and sharing. Good luck to you, and remember this whole forum is always here to support you in everything!

Sorry to hear that KG. But, chin up...there are lots of other good things out there to eat. I've had to give up lots of good things for my health as well and it takes some time to adjust but then you just accept and move on to the other good things. And, I've found good things to eat that I probably wouldn't have bothered with. And trust me, people love getting tomatoes and other garden stuff from friends and neighbors when they aren't growing them for themselves. I get good stuff from my neighbor all the time and she's my hero. Try to stay positive and we'll be here for you... :)

Hey, sorry to hear about the limitations on your diet but growing the toms for others is a rewarding thing to do. It will make you feel good to know you are helping others eat healthy.

Stick with the diet. Instead of listing the things you can't have, list the things you can still have. ;)

Hi Kuntrygal.....You have lots of great advise here! I can relate sort of - after recently finding I have allergy to Dairy, Wheat and Soy! It is a challenge but not impossible, I have reaped the award of so many benefits to my health, so it is soooo worthwhile. It will be for you too and pretty soon you will just be used to it and not even think about it as a problem!
I love the idea of growing them and giving to others. I think in life it goes around in circles and giving is a wonderful thing to do!!!
