Northern Flicker up close.

    I have a few flickers coming to the deck and have taken a load of pictures, but they are great looking birds so they keep getting caught in front of the lens.

    Every time you post a photograph of a Flicker it's better than the last one!! These ones are terrific and show every detail of the plumage. :-D Thankyou.

    In the lower image you can see why it used to be called the Red Shafted Flicker.

    You must live in an avian paradise. Sadly, over the last thirty years I have witnessed incredible declines in species and populations. Even bluejays have become scarce. I can count on one hand the number of hummers I've seen this past year.
