This first one is comming up all over the place. This second one has no leaves that i can see, just a spike that is comming up from the ground. The top seems to be developing a bulb of somekind. Okay this one i just have no idea. I got excited because i thought rhubarb, but no its not that. The last one is a couple of pics. It is a wicked plant because it has some serious thorns on it. A cluster of what looks like buds? or berries, but i think buds. And when the season dies back it gets this dried apple looking ball. I left the apple on it from when we got here, so i could get pics of it now with the plant starting to bloom. These are just 2 areas i haven't been able to get too yet. But that last one i will defenatly need chain mail on just to get to the bottom of the plant. Thanks for your help!
Biita I beleive the first one to be a peony and the second one looks to be a daffodill not sure on the rest. You know someone be along soon to help.
Thanks Petunia. I thought the first one might be that. Okay now is that the plant that needs ants to open it. Because if so, i have seen lots of ants, and wondering if that might be the reason.
Peonies don't need the ants to bloom but they do give off a very sweet nectar that the ants love. The nectar makes sure the ants are there to eat any soft bodied insects that are waiting to eat the Peonies. Haven't a clue either what the others are. That last one is intriguing tho.
Let's see. I might be wrong at this early stage, but #2 looks like Polygonatum odoratum. #3 is definately a Bergenia of some sort. Is #4-5-6 the same bush? It's probably a Chaenomeles with either orange or red flowers. If it is, check out this link: http://matportalen.no/artikler/2008/9/1222675115.93 It tells you that you can make jelly from the fruits.
Thank you Droopy, Toni and Petunia, that is a big help. I had to look up the second and third plants. I still don't know what all is in that area in the back yard. Good site, Droopy. Guess what i might try later in fall...lol. Yep, some jelly. Since it has a very acid or sour taste, i guess a good firm or sweet apple would be good to go with it. or tart. Hardanger! Thanks.
I'll take a guess at #2, it looks like a "jack in the pulpit" to me......I have one that came up random this spring, and looks exactly like that right now! Could #3 be a sea holly? Sorry, I don't do botanical names very well......Now I'm registered just to put my 2 cents in.....Thanks!
Wow peonies is so pretty.Can't wait for them to b;loom I wish they grew well here.Oh well will wait for everyone else to post photos.
