I came back from walking the dogs this morning to find my poor husband flat on his back and dosed up with codeine and valium after feeling it go pear-shaped again :'(

Then this afternoon I opened the door to our neighbour, with whom we share an extra vegetable garden in another elderly neighbour's garden,to see him wearing a surgical boot and the prospect of having his toes straightened with pins within the next couple of months following complications with diabetes :'(.

When we add in the fact that my ribs keep moving from where they ought to be and need regular physio to put them back, there is only my friend,Lynda, out of 4 gardeners who is actually fit to do anything strenuous in the way of prep for the new season. Ho Hum...

My goodness, hope everyone recovers quickly and successfully from the physical problems.

Maybe Lynda can find a couple of neighborhood boys who want to earn a little pocket money to help her out. Or a Boy Scout troop looking for a community service project.

Oh, my, that is terrible news! Please extend our sympathy to your husband--mine has a back that gives him trouble from time to time, so we know a bit of what he is going through.
Your poor neighbor--pins in his toes? Oh, dear. Would one of those sit-and-scoot rolling seats for the garden help?
Thank heavens a bit of therapy helps your ribs relocate. I can't imagine how painful it must be until they get back into line.
Gardeners are tough and resilient and innovative--y'all will find some way to be out there digging and planting.

Good grief what a trilogy of horrible health problems!! I hope all three of you will soon be feeling much better and be able to do a little more.

Oh Kiasmum, I am so sorry to hear of the ills of you all. I can totally relate to the rib thing. I have had that issue all my life due to extremely heavy physical work. We had horses growing up and I did a lot of 5 gal water bucket carrying, hay bale moving, worked on a (10,000) egg laying operation, for a landscaper and in a large greenhouse.....all extremely physical jobs. too much in all reality for me.
Now I have started gardening/farming differently and don't visit the chiropractor weekly. we use a lot more equipment to do the heavy work than what I had available growing up. I still have times of distress and wait it out and take tylenol and advil for it. I just keep moving, gently though.
I sure hope you all feel better soon, though!

    MMM, sad news.
Similar to what I see in my parents.
Work non stop no matter how much pain and in which part of the body they feel.
I always tell them we don't need so much. I almost feel guilty when I spend too much time in the flower garden...
I am sure spring will find you out there in the field doing as much as you can :)

Thank you all for your concern and patches :p

The Boy Scout idea may very well be the way forward a bit later in the Spring. At the moment we have more snow than we know what to do with  so there isn't anything we can/need to do for a while.

    Onwards, as they say...

Sorry to hear you may have problems gardening this year. I have surprised myself with what can be done with a few containers, as long as I get a little help with the heavy lifting. 2 yrs ago in March I got a very bad diagnosis. NOW I am so glad I didn't give up, just changed a few (a lot) of things, so I still get nice tomatoes, peppers etc. I am in Z7& and even have onions growing as we speak, along with cilantro. Planning to seed kale soon as well as picking out new tomato varieties for 2013. Sorry to make this about me, what I'm saying is it's not always as bad as it seems. Good luck and Happy Gardening in 2013!
