Seems to be the going theme for my yard this year. I bought a White Bird of Paradise some months back. Today it bloomed.....its NOT a white Bird of Paradise. Its not even a Bird of Paradise ,which I have been wanting so bad and its NOT even white. Now, I have red, purple, pink and I beleive yellow cannas...now I have an orange one. Also I painted Painted Daisies. These are NOT Pianted Daisies....they are the wild flower growing out back. But the package said Painted Daisies.:-? In FlowerPot Wildflowers
I share your frustration. Even though these are all lovely they are not what you wanted. My fave nursery has a problem with chatty women employees that are not paying attention to labeling. I put scarlet pentas mixed with scarlet profusion zinnias in a bunch of pots. Every one of the zinnias is orange. Also, my brugmansia they swore was pink has opened yellow. This is Annoying, but lucky for both of us, these other flowers are beautiful too. Plus, there's always next year. :-|
Yes, theres always next year. I was hoping to get a white BOP this year so maybe next year I would have blooms. >sigh< Theres always next year. BUT NO MORE CANNAS! LMAO! I just went and checked...I have two hot pink cannas(with baby shoots), three light pink cannas(with baby shoots), a pot full if what I think are yellow(tons of baby shoots), two purple (tons of shoots) and now an orange (tons of baby shoots). Next year, Ill be up to my eyes balls in cannas.
The orange one looks like what I had. thought it was bird of paradise. :-? now don't know what they were maybe helinconias :?:. I have no pic of them. Oh well it is very pretty tho.
I am glad I am not the only one who has plants that aren't what they are supposed to be. My Morning Glory vines aren't morning glories. They have some weird looking buds so I am waiting for them to bloom to see what they are. I have wild grape vines and they don't have grapes. Wannabe
Oh, I can't stand the not-what-it's-supposed-to-be's! I've purchased Henrii clematis 5 times now, and not one of them actually was Henrii. In fact, one of them was a Jackmanii, not even close. It's been particularly bad lately, and I've started complaining to the nurseries when they don't get it right.
I hate that pay good money for what you want and end up with totally different plants .Does anyone have a Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow plant(bush really) I want one of those but don't want to pay a fortune for it .It is really pretty and 3 different color blooms.
I always keep a few seeds in each pack that I buy. If they turn out to be different from the packet then I take them back to the garden centre with a picture of what actually grew. Most times I manage to get a replacement for free.
I have the same think happen to me, with plants and seeds. Pinkie, I have never seen a purple canna, pics pretty please!!!!!!!
Very good idea, Eileen - especially if you are organized enough to be able to find that packet later on. I've bought bulbs while they were blooming in a pot for more money before just because at least that way I *knew* what kind it was for sure... Well, at least it's a pretty orange! *shrug*
