What I thought was Honeydew,,isn`t ! Its a watermelon but what kind? Color is similar to Honeydew pale green, about 6 to 8 lbs, oval, pale yellow flesh. Problem is I can`t find one like it. I picked one this evening but was not quite ripe and needed another week or two. Don`t know what kind they are but I must have bought a sixpack of them. I will try to take pics tomorrow.

Mart...watch the curly Q at the petiole ( the stem that the melon is attached to the vine ) of the melon...it will turn brown and look like it is dying. That is a sure sign it is ripe. I never pick one that has a green curly Q. Turn the melon over and the bottom should be turning yellow, not white.

The only melon I can think of that is pale is a large one called Charleston grey, a med sized oval melon. 25 - 30 pounds.

Oh I know all that Carolyn. It was brown and dead on this one. But remember, I thought this was a honeydew. which has different ripeness characteristics. Didn`t know it was a watermelon. I grew Charleston Gray for the three previous years but this isn`t one. I had one volunteer CG come up but it is not close to these. And these melons are all in one row so I had to have bought them. only seeds I planted were Desert King. All of these are about the same size.
