As much as I don't want a dog I just might be getting one. A VERY BIG ONE Woodchucks and gnomes don't mix. ( photo / image / picture from Donna S's Garden ) Smoke bomb or smoke signals. Which ever works. ( photo / image / picture from Donna S's Garden )
I'd loan you one of mine, they ate all the moles, woodchucks, possum and rabbits on our property... they have their eye on the cat but I said "No!" The downside of course, is siberian huskies would cause more damage than the woodchucks would...
OHHHHHH! ERGH!!!!! Varmints! I can do without them.....Sorry for you though. A dog can cause more damage than the woodchucks, though. just saying. A little dog would probably deter them just as well. You just have to keep it out in the yard.
bTW, are woodchucks afraid of snakes? Because I know people around here drape black rubber snakes in fruit trees and berry bushes to keep birds away... maybe a big black rubber snake?
Maybe Chuckie was just lonely and wanted to visit with the gnomes. Get another woodchuck so Chuckie will have a friend. Then there will be little woodchucks and Chuckie will never, ever be lonely again. A terrier is a good idea since they are sturdy, born hunters, and don't eat a lot. If you follow my original advice, get two terriers.
Cris, I hate snakes even more then woodchucks. Jane, Woody already has a wife and a whole lot of kids. Going to look for rent a dog.
Donna I have the ideal thing for you to get rid of your woodchucks. Go to Mills Fleet Farm or your local farm store and look for a product called Shake-away. It is made from coyote urine or fox. The product name might be different but it works great. The woodies think that a fox or coyote has moved into the area and do not want to become a meal so they leave. Yippy! We had a woody move in under our barn floor that only had rubber matts down as flooring. What a destructive little devil. Holes and tunnels that you could loose a dog in. Plus they are very nasty when cornered. I would worry that they could hurt of kill a smaller dog. Even a bigger dog would have a fight on it hands. So now we sprinkle the Shake-away around our barn and no more critters. I am so glad it works.
One of two approaches may work. First is to place travel catalogs around the garden advertising family vacations to far off places. Second is to find a remove and release program for woodchucks. Jerry
sorry if i offend anyone, but.........the only good woodchuck is a dead woodchuck! terrible critters that eat your produce and dig holes.
Annette dig holes is an understatement. They can do some major excavating in just minuets. They are definitely on my bad critter list. Here I go again. Before I found the Shake-away product any woodchucks that tried to move into our barn became dead ones. Now I do not have to think about killing them as I hate to kill pretty much any critter. Try a product made out of coyote urine. It really, really, works.
