Now I've seen it all!

    It's been an odd week for birds in my yard. First we had the Great Horned Owl that was electrocuted on our Hydro pole. This morning I discovered an odd sight in one of our maple trees

    It's a duck! And it doesn't look like he's going anywhere ... he's made himself quite comfortable!
    I don't think I've ever seen a duck in a tree before!

    I think he's enjoying the view of your garden Netty. Either that or he feels safer up there away from predators.
    I know some ducks do nest in trees but I've never actually seen one sitting on a branch like that before.

    A hunting friend of mine informs me this is a Wood Duck, and they nest in trees. He also says they are delicious :)

    We used to have wood ducks in our trees in the woods at certain times of the year...they are beautiful,especially the males.

    Yes very good looking. I had a pair till the mink bit them.
