I believe this is called obedient plant. My Rose of Sharon is in the background. I don't remember planting it but it has sure spread in the last two years. It appears to match obedient plant in my perennial guide. This is a close up of the blossoms. If not obedient plant, any idea what it is?

Hi Polly, I have a similar pink Obedient plant as well (Physostegia virginiana "Vivid") . The common name is rather contradictory I think because it has ended up in places that I know I didn't plant it! I have another cultivar ( a white one) called Miss Manners and this one is definitely better behaved with respect to travelling about. You certainly have a lovely display of them in your photos. hostakeeper
That's obedient plant all right. It was originally called that because you can gently bend the flowers and they hold the shape. 8)
I had two whites and they were not very obedient. They perished when I transplanted them from my old place-in spite of my telling them to live. muddy
I had an obedient that Brandon and my dad dug up for me from a ditch along the side of the road. They are very beautiful and mine smelled wonderful the bees went crazy for it!! It died after a couple of years and it never self sowed!! Oh how I hope I can get another one they are beautiful!! Polly yours are very pretty!! Your rose of sharon is also looking great!! My rose of sharon looks like it my be falling vitcim to the drought!! Oh how I hope not!!<sigh>
