We were just here a couple weeks ago. It is about an hour from our house. They have a plug sale every Friday morning and we went to see what was there only we were way too late and everything was already gone. So I didn't tell any one about our experience. I wish I would have had a camera to show your the most beautiful orchids I had ever seen that were sitting on the desk. Bowls that were about 24" across and filled with the magenta dendrobiums in one and magenta and white variegated in the other...Just gorgeous. I was going to go back with my camera and get a pic, but it sounds as if the office was part of the fire. So Sad for this place. It is huge.

That is horrible! Thank goodness no one was hurt.
Fire terrifies me. Just 10 days ago, 6:30am on a Sunday morning, my dog woke me up to go out. As I stood there waiting for her I noticed an odd strange glow over the neighbors tree line. It was a fire, the flames so high I could see it over the tree line. I called 911 but the building was already fully engulfed. Found out later that day it was just 3 doors down and 2 people were killed as well as several dogs. Heartbreaking and terrifying too, as they think it may have been arson. I don't sleep well at night lately knowing there could be an arsonist loose in the neighborhood.

"Overnight, smoke could still be seen billowing from the greenhouse. An office, seed house and 25 greenhouses were burned."
How will they ever recover from losing so much?!! I'm glad no-one was hurt but the heartache and devestation this fire will have caused is beyond belief.

I looked at the satellite picture of the facility. It is a large facility. Are there two parts, split by a road or is that another company? Such a large place I hope they recover. Glad there was no loss of life. A local nursery in Chelmsford lost it's main building to a fire, they recovered but it was never the same. Finally he retired and sold the business to another larger grower. The news said 24 greenhouses burnt, out of how many?

OH, those poor owners, and all their workers! They must be in shock, still.
I hope they recover and re-open. It sounds like quite a wonderful place. (Wish we had one nearby!)

My prayers go out to the owners and workers and thankful for firemen not being hurt in any way.

I have heard of greenhouses burning down before. The first time I couldn't believe it for what was there to burn???? Now I know so much more.

    This is very sad.....

That is a shame. And hope find cause. And can rebuild quick. So no loss of long time customers.

    Netty,

That is terrifying. We had a similar experience about 15 years ago, or so, and it was the neighbor directly behind us by about 700 feet. They were having the house remodeled and the contractor accidentally nailed an electrical source/wire and caused the structure to burn. it was a mess for them, but no one was in the house and a lot of their possessions were in storage at the time. I sure hope that was an accident and not arson. so sad!

    Jerry,

All the greenhouses you see on the sat. pic are all one facility. I was hoping to go through it some day since I know where it is at now, but I am not sure what will happen at this point. I had an email form Greenhouse Growers in my box when I got home that said the fire started in a pole barn that was used to store straw and spread from there. I have no idea how many greenhouses they actually have, the place is huge. I would think they use golf carts or such to move quickly from one end or section to another. I drove by not long ago and was astounded at how long the place was.

I didn't hear of anyone getting hurt which is a blessing in and of itself when you realize just how large of a place it is. They employ a lot of people.

What heartbreaking news! So sad for them. Fires are so scary.
Hope they can rebuild, and recover.

Here is a little more info on the fire.

Jerry it says there are 105 acres of greenhouses here (but I am not sure that is accurate. I was just up there and I would say 20 acres of houses of what I could see) and the space that the fire encompassed was 5 acres.

S, I tried editing this and the same thing keeps coming up. sorry. I will try another news station and link from there.
I got it to work...here you go. try again.

What a sad story this is. I am very glad that you were not present when the fire broke out.
I got an "Error" notice when I tried the second link that you posted.
