We have had this fountain for about 15 years. But we used to have such a problem with the racoons getting in it and tearing it apart, we stopped using it. I was telling a friend about having it and he said to put about a cup of bleach in the water. It will help keep the coons out of it and it will help keep moss and algae from building up in it. So here it is.

I hope the bleach works and the racoons leave your fountain alone in future.

Your fountain is very nice Capt. I would be afraid to use bleach near my plants, but I guess there isn't enough in there to harm them.

Not that it is any better for I don't know but you could also use chlorine. I have had 2 ponds myself and have helped many others on some waterfalls only. I am going to plan on a pond less water fall sometime this winter. I will be using chlorine to keep the algae and other stuff under control. That is because I have a pool so in regular maintenance I will save a bit for the water fall. But a good rule to find the amount is either start with a lot and slowly cut back till you see growth or a problem, or start with a little and gradually add more. This will help to determine "overkill".

    Good luck!

Well, so far, so good. The fountain made it through the first night without the coons screwing around with it! :0
