Hubby got me this "crazy planter" for Christmas. Since there were no drainage holes, I put gravel in the bottom. Then I put different little pieces of succulents in the bottom holes and then Salvias in the middle and top (along with some Sweet Alyssum).

I found some of these "vases" on a mark-down rack right after Christmas . So, I thought it fitting to put this miniature rose from the mark-down rack in it. Again, no drainage holes... so more gravel.

And then yesterday while helping by brother "the dragon" dig a drainage ditch for one of our aunts, I spotted this old water cooler on the back porch of our grandmother's old house. Of course, I "stole" it.
Since it didn't leak, and I needed to thin out the water irises, this is where a couple ended up.

I've been racking by brain on how to have just a little light out the back door. Nothing bright, just enough to see if you're throwing scraps out to the dog or taking the 3 steps to the garage. There's a regular light back there, but I just can't see using it for a minute or two. So, I got one of the solar spotlights and had to come up with a simple and flexible way of mounting it. I had been using this plastic watering can for a planter, but it just wasn't working too good. So... I filled it with, you guessed it....gravel... and put in some fake flowers.

While taking a break, I decided to keep my "dumpster diving racks" up year 'round instead of just for harboring plants over the winter. But the grass was a problem. If they were going to stay, they'd have to be easier to keep looking tidy. So... off to the junk pile in the pasture to get some scrap siding from my dad's old workshop. Now I have a couple extra places to put plants that will only get afternoon/evening sunlight. And when winter comes back around, I have more shelves to add to tuck in and cover up the timid plants.

We can counting on you to come up with many creative ideas for floral displays. I like the water cooler.

Wow, it all looks so pretty. I really like the water cooler!

Man, I need to sneak down to your junk pile in the pasture and see what I can bring home that you won't miss. I want a junk pile like that.

Jerry... If the water cooler would have had a lid, I wouldn't have messed with it. But without it, it's just junk, right? Besides, my aunt was happy that I hauled it away. I considered it my pay for helping with the ditch (and she gave us some sausage too!)

Toni... My brother has our junk neatly separated! So it will be easy "picking".

Stratsmom... I love the Salvias and when I found a flat of 24 on sale... I knew exactly where some of them were going. Roses generally do not like me. But I had a miniature that did pretty well, so I thought I'd give it another try.

    Thanks everyone!

They all look great and the rose really looks as if it likes you a lot. Pretty little one.

Cheryl, your inventiveness and creativity are a constant amazement! What great ideas!
I also envy you your pasture "junk pile". We had one of those when we moved here. It unfortunately was filled with real junk, not a find in the whole dang pile!

You really have been busy! I'm surprised that hollow log in the first shot doesn't have flowers in it! I really like the water cooler with the Iris too.

Carolyn... Hopefully I won't murder it too quickly! I'll have to be very careful with watering it.

Jane... What's that saying "necessity is the mother of invention". Mine should be "lack of money is the mother of invention!" :D
All of the "real" junk has been hauled off. He kept a few scraps of stuff... just in case. When I called to ask if I could have the siding, he said it was going to be hauled off soon. I think I'm going to have to talk him out of that!

Netty... funny you should mention that! The plant that usually goes in there was still on the racks for winter protection. But once I started messing with the racks, most of the plants were replaced to their "homes", including the "Creeping Charlie" that goes in the hollow stump.

    Thanks again everyone!
