Okay, even though I didn't have my camera yesterday, someone did and they took a picture of me, diligently working and one looking out towards the Pacific ocean. As you can see, it was quite cloudy and getting dark. I really expected that we would be hiking out in the rain but instead, it just got quite cold.

Thanks for sharing your pictures...it looks like your work will never get done there..quite a beautiful area. Why exactly are you working there? A job or just to help beautify the area? It looks like you could make a rock garden with all the stone. Keep up the good work..

No the "work" is never done. I am a volunteer with the U.S. Forest Service in the Los Padres National Forest located in CA. This forest starts near Monterey and runs south parallel to the Pacific ocean and ends in Ventura county. As a volunteer we report to the District that manages the Sespe Wilderness area within the portion of the Forest in Ventura area.

We maintain the trails by brushing back heavy growth, working the tread on the trails, building "water bars" (not for drinking), that direct water flow off a trail and many other activities.

As of this posting, more than likely there is snow on that spot where I was standing when the picture was taken.

Here's a photo of the Creek taken in October. The Sespe is considered to be one of the last free-flowing streams in southern CA and it can put out a substainal amount of water when it rains.

Gorgeous. How far is this from your home? In one of your earlier posts you said something about so many people living in your area (I can relate... Baltimore-Washington-Annapolis area). Do you have to travel far to get to this beautiful escape?

    Where is the Sespe Wilderness?

I drive to the town of Ojai in the northern part of Ventura County. It's a beautiful town filled with artists and musicians. They always seem to have something going on every weekend. "google" it and you'll be ready to move there.

It takes me a little over an hour to get to Ojai and then I check in at the Forest Service office for our activity. Sometimes we're close into town and other times we will drive an hour or so to get to the location where we will be spending the day. This particular picture is about an hour from town, whereas the earlier one on the Horne Trail is just outside of town.

The area is somewhat popular but generally isn't crowded and obviously I love it. I have a lot of pictures and eventually when I'm allowed to post the link to my Wordpress blog, you can read all about it and what's going on in my garden, too!

Baltimore, huh? Yeah, that's probably more crowded than Simi Valley but I live near Los Angeles. And that is wayyyy crowded. :)
