sooooo wish we could get settled, 5th property in 5 years :( my landlord decided he wanted to come home . . which was nice. its left me with a bit of a problem, i have rosemary, sage, 4 thymes and a photinia that i really don't want to leave for someone else . . . could these be taken up now and put into pots???

They should all do just fine in pots, just make sure they are large enough to give the roots growing room if they have to stay potted for a few months.
I have all those herbs in pots out front and I don't know that you can kill a Photinia anyway

Good luck on the move, hopefully to someplace with even more room for gardens. We haven't moved in 25 years and I would never be able to pack up all the unique stuff we have collected over the years. ;)

The only thing I would add is to say also prune the foliage a bit when you lift the plant to pot it in a pot. That way you will reduce the need for water while the roots recover from the transplant, reducing the stress and shock of the move.

I would suggest maybe 1/3 of any growth. If the sage isn't growing maybe not even that or any, but guess, especially if you don't get a decent root mass with it. good luck.
