On the way to visit an old friend and her family where we used to live we got to see 10 deer and a skunk...I told my husband to stop so I could look at the skunk and he said they could spray a long distance ....he was beautiful with his black and white coat. One doe had 2 young with her in the corn field....we stopped the car to look at them as long as we could. It was a rainy day so I didn't have my camera along. It was a nice visit with the old neighbor and her family...I do miss the country life we once had until I remember all of the grass and pine snakes that are around there....but the nature was so wonderful it makes you forget... One thing I do miss is everyone waving to you as they passed when you were in the yard...I do think country people are friendlier.
What an interesting drive. I bet that you were sorry that you didn't have your camera along. The friendly habits that you describe sound like such a nice way to be. Friendliness is never wasted.
Yes I strongly agree with you that the people in the country are friendlier. You are very lucky to be able to go back to the country and visit neighbours. I too live in the country during my childhood, here we call it Kampong and everyone were friendly and helpful. It is in the same neighbourhood where I am living now but it is all gone because of development. Sojerd I really regretted that digital photography was not available at that time or else I would have taken tons of pics 8) . Back in those days only the rich could afford a camera. Sherry isn't it wonderful to grow up in the country! :-D
I didn't grow up in the country but I do live there now. You're right Sherry people are far more likely to stop and chat here than in the towns and cities. There are times when I'm out in the front garden that it can take me two hours just to do a little weeding as passers by stop for chats. :-D I would love to have been with you when you saw the skunk as it's an animal I'd love to see in the wild.
I grew up in the country and live there today. But my house now is too far from the road and too many trees for people to see it. But as a kid if you were out in the yard or in the fields, people would honk the horn and wave. The same if you were driving, they would wave at you! The first time we went to Georgia to visit friend, I commented to them about how friendly everyone was, by waving at us. They said that they weren't friendly, they were just shooing knats away from there faces!!
I was raised in the country and still live next door to the place I was raised.I do love country life.
