    is the map of Norway!!!

I just learned this from Kolbjørn's Aunt. Heres how it goes. Take your right arm, and hold it out, bent at the elbow. Between the thumb and first finger, up in the fold, is Oslo. Now go down to the tip of the middle finger, there is Kristiansand. Now go all the way around to the top knuckle of your little finger, there is Stavanger. Now go to your wrist, there is Bergen. Now go half way up your arm, and there is Trondheim. Go up just a little more and there is Bodø, and stick your finger out in the air to the side, and that is Lofoten. Now go just below the elbow, and that is Tromsø. From the elbow to the shoulder is Finn-Mark.

I thought that was so cute, I started to show everyone. Only to find out they all knew it,,lol :-? So i just had to try it out on people who didn't know,,,,lol. Learn something new everyday!

I never heard that one. It makes wonderful sense! And if you put your finger on Kristiansand, grab hold of Finnmark and turn the country upside-down, Finnmark will end up in southern Italy somewhere. It's a long country.

Heh heh heh...a "living map". What a handy thing.
We have a methof here of knowing which months have 31 days and which have less:
if you make a fist and begin counting your knuckles beginning with the d.i.p. joint of the index finger and the depressions inbetween them from forefinger to little finger then begin again with August at the forefinger's knuckle again...it all comes out.
    Chuckle.
I don't know if that is clear....I like your map thing better anyway.
    Thanks.

We use the knuckle-count too, Sjoerd, so I understand what you mean.

Very interesting Biita. I wonder if there is something similar for Ireland/Sweden.

On the subject of remembering the days in a month I use:

LOL. We do the same thing for the state of Wisconsin. Hold up your right hand, palm facing you. The thumb is the peninsula of Door County, a popular vacation spot. Where your thumb goes into the palm is Milwaukee, our largest city which is well-known for its breweries. The bottom center of your palm is the capital, Madison. Hayward is the tip of the middle finger and Superior is the tip of your little finger. (I live somewhere between Madison and Milwaukee, so right in the middle of the mound.)

Thanks for the geography lesson on Norway. My mother's family was chock full of Johnsons and the like, as are a good deal of the people who live in Wisconsin. I would love to visit someday. It sounds like a beautiful country.

Continuing the Wisconsin hand, we live at the tip of the 1st finger.
