I put out peanuts for the Jays and Squirrels....yes I decided to start feeding the squirrel when I noticed it was eating the gourds that Mr. Wren was preparing nests in

The Jay is definitely the bully, there are 4 Blue Jays living in or near our backyard and you never see more than one at a time at the peanut pile, the others are sitting in nearby trees waiting their turn. And I have watched stand-offs between Jay and Squirrel...the Jay always wins.

Again, the photos were taken through the front window and I guess if I got out there and washed the window and screen the photos might be sharper....but that probably isn't going to happen ;)

I think your photographs are just fine Toni. It's interesting that your Jays act exactly the same as the Magpies we have over here. The squirrel has no chance to feed when they are around and they also take turns at the feeders.

Is it just me or is that squirrel overweight? Great shots Toni!

Thanks Eileen, me an GIMP has a good time getting those photos viewable.

Thanks Frank, the squirrel is a female so she may have a good reason to be a little overweight

Toni, squirrelettes in the near future? We don't have squirrels, nor do we have jays, so I doubly appreciate your photos.

I can send you a box full of squirrelettes in a few weeks. I am pretty sure I found their nest up in the Hackberry tree, just a clump of leaves balanced on a couple of limbs and branches.
