This was first broadcast in 1957. Shortly after the broadcast, calls started coming in to the BBC asking for more information on where to find the trees, and how to care for them. The Danish news service picked it up and received calls from angry housewives that couldn't convince their husbands that spaghetti didn't grow on trees. After all, the news said it did.
I remember that April Fool. I was only seven years old and was totally engrossed when the news were telling us that spaghetti grew on trees. I asked my parents if we could go and see a spaghetti tree but they told me they only grew abroad. I'm not quite as easily fooled now though - at least I don't think I am.
Oh boy. It would take a noodle brain to believe that. Somedays I think my brains are made out of spaghetti.
