This insect, green lacewing, is one of the best friends of the gardener. Its off spring devour more aphids than any other insect. Its only about 3/8 inch long so are not easily seen. Just look at those delicate wings! I'm not certain we have those around here. I've never seen them, even though my nose is very close to the ground during summer.
Wonderful pic. Good to know what I am looking for in beneficial insects. That picture will really help and I will be on the look-out for it.
We have those delicate little insects in our gardens here and I love to see them arrive. Knowing they chomp on aphids too makes them all the more welcome.
Great shot Kildale. I've seen those and had no idea they were beneficial insects! I'll be on the lookout now
Kildale - you are very talented! Love those pics. And I invite every lacewing in the area to my yard!
Thank you each and everyone for the posts. I enjoy taking the insect shots and spiders too, although the spiders are not always friends of the gardener.
I do love the lacewings in my yard as well as Praying Mantis my favorite next to the lacewing is the Writing Spider.I think your photos or wonderful.
I have a few photos of spiders but they are not a favorite of many people so this one may be only for you. ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden )
It's a golden rod spider Misumena vatia and they change color depending what the flower color is. This is the same species. Misumena vatia ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden )
It really is an amazing spider.I have never seen one of those before .I don't think I have anyway. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing photography. I did not realise the lacewings ate the aphids, will welcome them into the garden from now on. Not sure of the spider though, although a very unusual one
