Only a Few Monarch Cats This Year

    I always allow common milkweed plants to grow wherever they sprout for the monarch butterflies.

    Last year the monarch cats were on every milkweed plant. One had nime cats of different sizes. I tied several leaves to the empty stem so the last cat could grow big enough.

    I only found two so far this year. This is the one from yesterday.

    Seems I had lots more caterpillars last year.

    Well, one's better than none I suppose. We haven't seen a single Monarch butterfly this autumn. At this time of year they should be all over our plums and blooms, but no. :(
