I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but it happens to me every year. I decide that my gardens are full and that I should avoid garden centers. Then I see that sign ... upto 75% off, and I hit that rut in the road and the next thing I know I am unloading more plants.
Then it begins ... I try to squeeze them into the garden and realize that they just wont fit. I set the plants down and then little bells go off in my head ...
The next thing you know, I am gathering newspaper and digging compost
    [IMG]
A little more fiddling with the shape is needed, but you see what happens?

It's usually just about this time that my husband comes out to see what I am up to. Thankfully he doesn't mind and says "looks like you need more plants to fill that in". Now WHERE was that plant sale? :D

Netty you are suffering from "gardener's disease" which manifests itself in an uncontrollable urge to acquire plants and expand gardens.
My husband has tried to hide the garden hoses so I can't use them to outline proposed beds. Did you know that flour works just as well?

Haha He has already hidden the hose, but I have a large stockpile of rope in my shed. When that disappears, I shall remember the flour trick ;)

    :'( :'(

I think my hubby and I have that. Gardener's disease, I think it's very contagious. I gave it to my hubby many years ago. Now, he is really really sick with it.

I hear there is no cure......

Unfortunately (fortunately?) my husband seems to be immune. But then, he is very tolerant!

Love it! I always seem to have those bells go off too, and my beds somehow enlarge...
I also get a bonus of bringing home orphans from my job. They need a good home! I must make room!
I really think that bed of yours needed to be bigger ;) Less grass to mow!

    Beautiful new bed Netty.

The only bad thing about having turned our entire front yard into a garden is that there really is NO room to expand now. Well, I take that back, the shaded part on the southern end is still fairly bare, then there is the H*** strip between the sidewalk and curb that hasn't been finished yet. And what the heck, who needs paths more than 6 inches wide wandering everywhere when there are plants to be rescued and enjoyed.

I love how you've extended that bed Netty. My poor garden is so overstuffed that there's hardly any grass left now. What I need is for someone to come and stretch the space I've got until it's twice the size!!

I actually have my whole back garden planned out in my head. The garden I just expanded was slated to be expanded a LOT next spring. These extra plants just made me start part of it a little early. Less grass for DH to mow :)

I have that disease also. As I was mowing yesterday, I thought... I really need to connect a couple of these beds, I'm getting tired of pushing the mower around them. I think that'll be a good project for the winter. Watch out dumpsters... I'll be looking for more cardboard!
Oh yeah... that expanded bed looks marvelous!

I'm familiar with that addiction. I haven't found a cure but being over 65 and having some physical limitations have kept me in recovery.

There's been an unanticipated advantage to my physical limits. I've gotten really good at using the space I have.
    That's about 70 X 35 feet including paths.

'Gardening disease' is an inherited gene. No attempt should be made to arrest or cure it. Unless it advances to the stages of Agave and Cacti.

Now Netty, what an absolutely delightful posting this time.
You did such nice work there on that bed and your commentary--perfect. I liked ending with a chuckle (I saw it coming. hahahaha)
    Well done, meid.
