The "place your fall orders now" newsletters have started arriving in my inbox this month. The orders for seeds and new plants fairly fly out of our checkbooks in January, Feb and March but do any of you ever consider buying anything other than bulbs in the fall?

Last Sept I picked up some really good deals locally at the end of season sales and being perennials they bloomed a while until winter and this past spring since they had a head start from being able to establish themselves in the fall, they all came back like they had been out there for years.

I know I want more Daylilies, Iris' and Glads. When I get thru drooling over other plants being offered I will get a couple of orders out.

What, if any, do you all plan to plant this fall?

    I almost can't pass up a bulb book :D I LOVE BULBS!!
I think because each one is like a little surprise. It amazes me how a dull looking little bulb can turn into such a beautiful flower :-D The only problem is all the up and down planting them is getting harder and harder :D That is about the only fall thing I order and I usually do that early in the year to get a good selection. I might try day lily seeds this year though. A year or two ago I salvaged a sorry looking little bush from the WalMart garden center. Like you said he had a month or two to get situated and every year since it has been a beautiful shrub.

I'm still trying to get stuff planted here so fall plantings are the last thing on my mind! I'm sure I'll pick up some more bulbs and probably a few end of season bargains.

    Current planting

What I are planting now has turned into more of a chore that anticipated, as usual. We moved in ca 5 yrs ago buying the house from an elderly lady who was unable to look after the landscaping. Too true that it has taken me only 5 years to address the issue. We are in the midst of the worst drought in 140 yrs and now is when I get the itch in the greenish thumb (musta hit it with something) digging in the concrete dirt of the beds.

Now the plantings are on order and we are finally getting some rain (touch wood) so I gotta keep moving.

How I got to this site this pm was looking for info on dividing daylilys and transplanting hydrangeas. Also, when to do do.

I'm thinking I won't inflice my garden on any new plants, lol! I'm just going to focus on beefing up my soil with bunny poo and such. The seeds Toni sent me have struggled something aweful, I feel so sorry for them! Hmm, maybe I'll just become an expert on plants that thrive on nothing but rocks!

I am going to try and control my urges and not order anything new (yeah, right). I do have some plants that I am raising from seed and hopefully my Purple Pride of Madeira will be ready to plant.

    bulb topic ......

    While were busy talking bulbs.
Does anyone know of Lilys that will bloom at the same time as tulips do?

 My tulips did get a foot of snow on them this time, just as they were opening.. I lost 80% of 200.

    Now for spring 2008?????????

In the Fall I mostly plant Mid Spring and Late Spring tulip bulbs.
