This is getting 'way too organized!
The farmers/vegetable gardeners who are contributing to the local food bank are getting together today to figure out who is going to do pick-ups and deliveries on what days. With the price of gas, we don't want to drive around to pick up two cucumbers!
One lady who is basically a shut-in (the mom of one of the contributors) has offered to take all the phone calls about who has what, co-ordinate it, and then phone the driver with a list. We are trying to use drivers on days when they go into town anyway.
Last year we delivered twice a week. Since we have more gardeners with larger gardens (yes, some folks expanded just for the food bank)we may do three deliveries for part of the year.
If this gets anymore organized, we may have to buy tee shirts with some kind of logo!

Well that gets you thinking. I wonder if the farmers do things like that around here? I will have to ask.

Jerry, we are fortunate that our food pantry can accept right-out-of-the-garden vegetables and fruits. In some areas, home-grown isn't or can't be accepted.
Shoot, here they even take the dirt that is still clinging to some of the vegs!

Okay, it is now in the Village Square. ;)

There are several community gardens in our area who grow veggies just for the local food banks.
Sjoerd's fellow allotment gardeners have been sending their excess veg to a food bank rather than having to throw away what they can't eat or foist on friends and family. :stew1:

Hope your crops are super large and tasty this year.
