Over 300 eggs since they started laying just after Easter time. We have 6 girls and 5 boys, which isn't a good, healthy ratio. As you can imagine, it can be like an orgy some days, and some of the gals are getting a little beaten up. I'm afraid a couple of the lads will be ending up in our freezer, but that was always the plan. The eggs are fab, I have sold some, and given lots away to family and friends. Number one son has used them to bake cakes and cookies, and Mark and I love them as scotch eggs - hard boiled, wrapped in good sausage meat, then breadcrumbs and then baked until crispy. They have also become a staple Sunday morning breakfast, gently fried until just set and served on crumpets. Productive pets are fab!
What a success story, EJ. It looks like you are good for the birds and the birds are good for you. WEith 300+ eggs laid for you...it looks like you guys know egg-zaktly what you are doing on the quail front.
Oh boy that's a heck of a lot of eggs from your six girls EJ. I'd say getting those quails was certainly rewarding. :-D
Oh my Emma, those quails certainly are prolific layers, you are certainly doing something right Never had a quails egg, are they a similar taste to hen's eggs?
Good thing you and everyone you know likes eggs!! You hens are a regular egg factory. I have seen quail eggs at the local oriental markets where I get my Chrysanthemum Tea, I think I will have to buy some next time and try my hand at making scotch eggs. I had a Scotch egg a few years ago at a restaurant in Dallas called The Londoner, it was pretty good.
