MISSOURI CITY... RICHMOND... ROSENBERG 332 PM CST MON JAN 26 2009 ... MONITORING THE POTENTIAL FOR A FREEZING RAIN EVENT OR ICE STORM ACROSS NORTHERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS TUESDAY NIGHT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IS CURRENTLY MONITORING THE POTENTIAL FOR A FREEZING RAIN EVENT OR ICE STORM ACROSS NORTHERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS TUESDAY NIGHT AND EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING.

A COLD FRONT WILL BE MOVING ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS TUESDAY AND OFF THE COAST EARLY TUESDAY EVENING. BOTH PACIFIC AND GULF MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE OVERRIDING THIS SHALLOW COLD AIRMASS. A SWATH OF PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP FROM THE BIG BEND AREA UP INTO THE TENNESSEE VALLEY TUESDAY EVENING AND SAG SOUTHWARD INTO SOUTHEAST TEXAS THROUGH THE NIGHT AS TEMPS AT THE SURFACE FALL WELL INTO THE 30S.

CURRENT COMPUTER MODEL DATA SUGGESTS TEMPERATURES ALONG AND NORTH OF A BRENHAM LINE MAY HOVER AROUND THE FREEZING MARK AS THIS OCCURS... PRODUCING FREEZING RAIN AND THE THREAT OF AN ICE STORM.

THIS WOULD MAKE TRAVEL QUITE HAZARDOUS WITH ICING OCCURRING ON ROADWAYS AND BRIDGES. THIS COULD ALSO BE A HAZARD TO TREES AND VEGETATION.

THE EXPECTED TIMEFRAME FOR THIS WERE TO OCCUR WOULD BE FROM ROUGHLY 11 PM TUESDAY TO 9 AM WEDNESDAY.

METEOROLOGISTS WILL LOOK AT ADDITIONAL COMPUTER MODELS THAT ARRIVE LATER TONIGHT AND MAY NEED TO ISSUE A WINTER STORM WATCH FOR NORTHERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS FOR TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING.

FREEZING RAIN IS NOT ANTICIPATED FOR THE HOUSTON METRO AREA... BUT THOSE WITH PLANS TO TRAVEL NORTH SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS. CONDITIONS SHOULD BE QUITE A BIT WORSE IF TRAVELING TO THE DALLAS AREA WHERE AN ICE STORM WARNING IS ALREADY IN EFFECT.

Woohoo, we haven't had a good ice storm in many years.

The cold rain has started here, the temp is still above freezing so far. Our part of the ice storm starts Tuesday morning around 6 a.m. and goes thru Wed morning. With a possible 1/3rd inch of ice on the roads by the time it ends...maybe more depending on what the temperature does.

We are supposed to be below freezing (32 DegF/0 degC) for between 18 to 24 hours thru all of this.

I wonder why it creeped up on our weather people. We will have our rain and partly cloudy being scraped of the porches.

I don't think it sneaked up on them as much as the storm system in Oklahoma, where they have been having a major ice storm all day, has gotten more extensive then first thought it would.
Originally we were going to get maybe a few scattered spots of freezing rain but that was before the main storm grew.

One thing I've learned this winter is to expect the unexpected! The weather people have been so far off for most of the winter I don't even check the forecast anymore. I hope the ice storm doesn't hit you Glenda.

Toni, what the heck do you mean 'woo-hoo'??????
Do you really like ice storms? You don't have to get out and drive in it, but my daughter does. :D :D I heard Pete say that it is the first ice storm of the season. I thought Dallas had had ice a couple of times already. This is why so many people are so sick.

Maybe you can go ice skating! :D :D

I am so sick and tired of nothing but clear skies and sun....since May!!! that cold and icy sounds really good. If it gets really bad, everything will be closed except for emergency services.

A very few parts of Dallas County and the north Texas area had ice a couple of times last month but this is the first one that will cover their entire viewing area of north Texas. Remember that when they are talking about their viewing area that includes a lot of territory.....basically from Weatherford west to Greenville east, the Tx/Okla state line north to Waxahachie south.
One of those ice events included ice on streets less than 5 miles from my house while my yard didn't even get rain.

Ouch! Poor people. We rarely have ice storms, but I've seen a lot of reports on the TV, mainly from the Washington area, and I'm certain I don't want to experience them. I hope everything goes well for you all.

To summarize: Toni needs to move to the Norwegian coast. Our weather usually changes several times per day, so she won't be fed up with static weather.

And I need to bring the ice skates to Texas, maybe I'll get to use them this year. The snow is further north, so if I go visit Netty I can bring my skis too.

I'll need the studded tires and the tire chains, of course. Otherwise I won't get anywhere.

oh my if it happens you all stay safe, but I can see Toni's point it is nice to have a good spell of winter let you know the seasons do still exist ! I think my favourite mornings are cold sunny frosty ones where everything looks like it has little diamonds scattered over them.
