We went mushrooming today, and actually remembered to bring the camera. The mushrooms were nowhere to be found of course, but we did manage to pick a few.

Setting out. The white basket is decoupaged, the blue one is painted:

    Found a few chanterelles:

I don't think anybody had picked blueberries where we were. These were gone in two minutes:

The view across the fjord. As you can see, somebody has sprinkled powdered sugar on the mountain tops:

This is our Cotoneaster lucidus hedge. The autumn colours are spectacular. The blooms feed the bees and the berries feed the birds:

The Sambucus berries are ripe and ready to be made into wine:

We've had a lovely autumn day today!

    What a sucesful day, Droopy.
Those champignons looked delicious...and the baskets weree really artsy-crafty. They looked quite nice. Judging from their size, you folks were optimistic ;)
I hope you filled them both.
The blueberries made my mouth water to see them.
The landscape shots made me wish that I had gone with you guys. The scenes are beautiful to see.

I envy your mushrooms, Droopy. Do you have any other species there? Nothing like wild mushroom sautee.

Those Mountain shots are just gorgeous Droopy! You live in such a beautiful part of the world. There are many different types of mushrooms popping up here, but unfortunately I don't know which ones are edible. If I see any Puffballs I will pick them for my dear friend Ron, but otherwise I am too afraid to pick a poisonous type.
Say, you sure make a lot of different kinds of wine Droopy :)

Autumn certainly brings out all the mushrooms and berries around here too as well as nuts of course. I reeally like your decoupaged mushroom basket. :-D We have elder berries growing en masse here at the moment but we leave them for the birds as neither of us are wine drinkers.

We didn't fill the baskets, since the big, orange mushrooms where nowhere in sight. We only got three-four different edible ones, and they were small too. It looks like a bad mushroom year in these parts.

We never take any chances and only pick the ones we're certain about. There are several different edible species growing around here, but I haven't quite figured out where they are and when.

My husband likes to make wine, and he's fairly successful too. Next wine up is the rhubarb I think.

Wow, now thats the kind of day out i like to have when i go foraging. I have spotted a few blueberries still around here, and like you they are gone in a second. lol. We don't have the elderberry berries here, believe me i have looked. They make the best wine.

Mushrooms i know nothing about them, but i am trying to learn. The chantelles i have found a few and brought home, but thats about the only one i know that is not bad. We have tons of the red one here with the white dots,,lol,, but well they look pretty but no, no, not for me,,,lol.

When you say the orange ones, do you mean the ones that grow like half the size of a plate, and when they get older, they get real slimy. I have seen those here, but white and others orange. I thought those were poison.

I have some pics of the arctic mushrooms, if i post can you tell me what is good and what is not?

Glenda, I would have thought you had tasted your way through loads of different mushrooms! Wish I could mail you a taste.

Biita, I can try, but the best way to learn is to go foraging with someone who knows a bit about mushrooms. There are a few types that can't be mistaken for anything else, the so called "safe mushrooms". If you manage to learn those you'll have a ball out there in the forest.

Droopy, you must of had a wonderful day.

I can almost taste the elderberry wine. The old folks around here used to make it.
We have wild cherry trees growing here. My grandmother made the best "cherry bounce". We would strip the branches of all the tiny cherries and she would reward us with a thimble size shot of the wine when it was fermented and ready. Yum!!!

I think i'm out of luck as far as forests go,,,lol. We don't have those up here. The closest we have is the dwarf birch trees, regular birch, rowen, and i think its fir trees. lots of pines. Now and then there is an alder. So i think walking in the woods is out. lol. I have been all thru the marsh and base of the mountains but its kind of hard because of all the huge boulders to walk. But i am going to post about the arctic mushrooms maybe someone can recognise any of them. Thanks Droopy!

Cajunbelle, cherry wine is very good, wish we had some cherry trees. And your granny's recipe for it.

Sorry, Biita, forgot about your lack of woods up there. :D
