There are some great things to see when the tides are low. This is one of them.

O.K. It looks like it lives on a rock and maybe a half inch long? What is it?

What lovely colours and such intricate patterns too. A strange but beautiful little creature. :-D

They remind me of trilobites, long extinct marine creatures.

If I had seen this photo anywhere else besides one of Kildale's post... I would have sworn it was a piece of pottery.
    Fascinating.

Hi cherylad, They do come in a great variety of colours. The gumboot chiton can be 10 inches or more long, although it is just reddish, no patterns etc.

Wow. Haven't seen anything close to it. Really nice. SO this one was dead? Alive? You collect them? Are all those on that website yours? Am I asking too many questions?
It's just I live so far away from the sea... :(

I sat here wondering how that rock could have grown teeth. :D What lovely creatures the chitons are. Thanks for sharing them.

Hello calinromania. Nearly all the images on my site are mine except for a few from my son of parks mainly and the odd animal. Any image from others are credited with their name. All the animals, marine, insects, etc are all alive. We leave the creatures alone and replace them under rocks or seaweed. When I say I have so many of a certain thing, I mean different ones on photographs. Hope you enjoy the site and we do put out a free newsletter each month with photos sent in to us.

Hi Droopy. There really are some great things in the sea. Most often you have to go diving, but at very low tides we get to see so many different things.

WOW. I went and checked the site again and went through most of the pictures. WOW! AGAIN!
    Such a neat site!
Of course my faves are the galleries with plants/flowers.
There's an aloe growing in your area? Is it frost hardy? Or I am wrong and it isn't that cold in BC ?

OH... and I loved that cute small red bloom delosperma... If it's that red in real life...

I do travel a lot, down into Arizona, California etc for the desert flowers. I also go to Hawaii often, I have been three times and I'm all booked up again for September. Off to Arizona again in March and it does get hot down there. We have a lot of mountains here and in 2 weeks I'm off to Whistler, where last years winter olympics were held. Its not far away though and will be there the same day as I leave. Arizona and California take 2 days or more by car but we will be flying next time.
