    Hi,

I'm one of those typical men who buys his girlfriend flowers most of the time. Recently, I walked into a store and bought flowers, but there was this pot with overflowing yellow colored flowers. The whole top was yellow flowers. It looked beautiful so I bought it.

When I brought it home, I said I hope to have this thing be with you for as long as possible. A week later, we left for Montreal and TOTALLY forgot about the pot. When we returned, all the flowers had died.

To bring it back to life after reading and telling me girlfriend that I will save it, I cut off all the dead flowers. And that was over a month ago. Nothing has happened - other than the leaves kinda surviving. I water it daily, and once every 2 weeks, I water it with fertilizer mixed water

I don't know what plant it is, but I desperately want to save it.
Here's some pictures. I hope someone can help.

Chrysanthemum X morifolium (Garden Mum) Click on this blue link....is this your plant?

You plant looks good and healthy and might put out new blooms in October. Chrysanthemum blooms do not live very long so dying off is not a problem.
It does need full sun and water only when the soil is dry down to the second knuckle when you stick your finger into the pot. If you have to keep it inside make sure it's in front of a sunny window. Mine usually die back in winter then come back just fine in Spring but in your climate you will want to bring it inside for the winter.

Wow Toni! Yes that's it. The second picture is more like it (organgish tint) but the last picture is super bright so I can't recall if THAT's how bright it was. But I do remember it to be more yellow than orange.

The girl said don't put it in the sun which is why I kept it indoors. So you're saying I'd better leave it by the window (in condo) and keep watering it daily (that's what I do currently.. no knuckle test)

As an aside, you think I should stick my finger into the pot till the knuckle and feel for moistness? If it's dry, water...?

    Hi and welcome.
Regarding the watering... yes... check the soil before you water. Don't go by a schedule. Most plants get killed by overwatering than underwatering.
And cut back on the feeding too. Maybe once a month, but probably better every 6 weeks.
The plant does look healthy... and you may get some more blooms this year, but more than likely it won't be until next.
Good luck! And let us know how it's doing.

Welcome to the group !! Mums are our beautiful fall flowers but like the others said over watering will kill them quicker than under watering them. They can take a little dry soil fine.
