I painted several of these a few years ago and gave them to my Mom and Lisa for christmas. These are the ones I kept for myself and have hanging on the trellis out front. This one is the same size as the first one but it is hanging really high up on the trellis so taking the picture was a tad difficult. This one was smaller and I was afraid drilling a hole might crack it so it is just for decoration.
I love your choice of colours, and the decor is just right. I can't imagine them looking different. Well done and thanks for sharing.
Hiya, Biita...did you have an absolutely wonderful relaxing camping trip? I just hung the gourds out a couple of days ago, don't know what the birds will think of them. I will have to wait until 'baby season' next spring and hopefully will have new families in them. Thanks all, glad you like them. I picked up more of the birdhouse gourds at an junque shop the weekend we went to PRH's Mom's lavender farm...more to paint and hang before next spring.
Toni ,I have a problem with the paint peeling off let me know if yours doesn't whst type of paint or sealer you use please.I haven't had any birds move in as yet and put them out early spring.
Hiya Toni,,, yes i sure did,, altho the first thing we saw when we made it down the mountain was sheep! I thought, omg! lol. Then i thought, hey we won't have to look to far for dinner,, I'll be posting pics soon, i have to resize them first.
Toni, I love them. So colorful and pretty.I found some gourds at a flea market, but thought they were rather expensive at anywhere from $4.00 - $6.00!! What did you pay for yours? Glenda did you use outdoor acrylic paint? If not that may have made a difference. :-o
I love painted gourds but just can't get the ones I grow to dry out enough to keep. I am growing smaller ones this year and have lots already. Any tips?
EJ, I didn't grow those. I bought them from a place I found online. I did grow bushel gourds last year and have three smallish ones hanging out back that should be usable sometime this fall. I left them on the vine until after the first frost which didn't happen until Nov here. Then I put them mesh bags and hung them up in the backroom. Our backroom is the same as an uninsulated garage or a shed. They feel very light now and sound hollow when I tap them with my fingernail but the seeds don't rattle yet so they need a few more weeks out there.
You just never cease to amaze. Those gourds are gourd-geous! Gourds look attractive naturally, but these........well, these are works of art.
