Just outside the bedroom window there appeared a very busy Palliated Woodpecker. He posed for a few shots, and was on his way. Great shots Tom. :-D So glad he decided to pose for you so that we can share him too. I hope you're getting around a bit better now and that your knee is healing.
Pileated, not Palliated, but never mind. Great photos! You're lucky he let you take them; the only birds I ever manage to photograph are gulls.
Fantastic photos! They are so shy around here that they seem like ghosts. I love the shots you got :-D
There used to be a woodpecker who hung upside down in the maple tree in my front yard every morning but I haven't seen him for a while. He wasn't as colorful as this guy. I love seeing images from other folks' locale! thanks.
Fantastic shots Tom! I'm amazed he posed for you...I have tried on many occasions to take photos of Pileated Woodpeckers and they always hide on the other side of the tree!
I would again like to congratulate you on the marvelous pictures. I have never seen a Pileated Woodpecker when I had a camera with me, but the backyard Downies always hide when they see my camera.
Wow, what a beauty. Is he a big bird? I love woodpeckers and hear them a lot when I am down on my allotment as we are in the middle of woods on a huge common owned by the national trust. That said, although I see them occassionally, never when I have my camera with me. Lovely shots and a lovely bird.
