All of them! 3 kinds of tomatoes, and 3 kinds of flowers., Blue Anglona, Emerald Dichondra, and Cora Cherry Vinca. Some of the flowers said '10 to 21' days to sprout. If I had known the flowers were going to sprout so soon, I would have held off planting them. It is still 2 months before I can put them outside and no place to put 24 plants that are going to 'cascade'! Maybe they are slow growers? Okay--take a deep breath! We will plant the tomatoes in the greenhouse in 5 to 6 weeks. Surely the flowers are not going to instantly start out growing their area and we could put hooks in the greenhouse ceiling and hang them in there. I'm starting to calm down now. I think I'll get the broccoli seed started as I know it will be planted in the garden in it's tunnel before it outgrows it's space!
Glad that you are calming down now. hahaha. It was quite a burst of growth, wasn't it. Sounds like you are on track now.
This is the fourth year I've been starting seeds and so far I've found that vegetables are much easier and more dependable than flowers. Some flowers are easy such as zinnia and marigolds but I like to experiment (and save money!) for all the pots I seem to think I need. 8 large pots in full sun, the front yard and 13 in shade, on the patio in the back. Oh well, I have a few ideas that I may try this year.
I am curious by nature---what are your ideas for this year? I do not grow much in containers, so I am interested to hear what sorts of things you grow and have has success with in pots. I agree that some flowering plants present more of a gardening challenge than do veg.
I plant an average of 16 to 18 pots a year with annuals. This year I decided to try growing some of the annual sun plants that I just can't afford to buy and I'm going to also try direct seed in some of the pots like zinnia and marigold. I have two large cast iron kettles and a 4 foot wide round planter also that I'm going to plant sedums in. I think they will live through our winters without protection. Here's pictures of the 'pots' I'm talking about. The round planter with wagon wheel sphere and one of the kettles in the back ground. these are what I call my 'feed trough' planters with a bench between them. The rest of the pots are on or around our patio and they are much easier to take care of in shade.
