Paper Wasp up close...

    Well I knew wasps came in different colour variations but I've never seen a red one before.

    There is actually one with the common name of Red Wasp - Polistes carolina. We have loads of them here and they are very aggressive, they will come at you, attack, and sting if you get within 15 feet or so from their nest. A large wasp, 30-40mm in length, they can deliver a very painful sting.

    These photos gave me shivers! Yuck! Red wasps! :-x
    They scare the dickens out of me. I almost swatted by computer screen! :-D

    Great pictures. Funny how little things can have such intricate designs.
    Almost makes me take the magnifying glass and crawl around...
