I see garden photos in magazines and drool over the look the gardener has accomplished cause I want one like it. This Spring I have been looking at my gardens with a different perspective and I do have a few of those vignettes. So I am much happier with the backyard this year than in several.

These photos are all of the same area of the backyard, just taken from different angles, but they give me hope of being able to get the same look in the rest of my back garden. I neglected the back garden for a few years while getting the front garden created so now I am playing catchup out there. But I try to alternate days between front and back so nothing is neglected again.

If you gave guided tours how long would it take to explain the story behind each feature in your garden Toni? It's so full of life!

I love the old children's riding horse and the chairs to enjoy the scenery. The blue iris and clematis (I think) are a good match. What are the red flowers? I can see why you are proud of this area.

Hi Toni,..the second and third picture are of the type you would see on a magazine cover,..the flowers of course are the highlights but the hobbyhorse and the windmill make your imagination run riot,..very nice.

    Thanks you all.
Frank, it usually takes a long time to explain the decor items and most people just roll their eyes...my oldest daughter being one of those.

Jewel, a friend painted that horse gold and gave it to me a couple of years ago, the gold paint didn't last long. This friend brings things over for my yard every once in a while but I think it's mainly because he is trying to bribe me to get the little Dragon table I have out back...not happen' no matter what he brings over.

On the windmill is Clematis 'H.F.Young' (Clematis) and has been on that windmill for 5+ years so it is really large now. Some years it will put out a few blooms in fall too.

The Iris are unnamed but I call them my Popsicle Ladies because they remind me of the popsicles I used to get from the ice cream man every day in summer so long ago.

The red flowers are Snapdragons. It seems I have mostly red or maroon ones this year but I really don't 'do' pastels so the darker the better for me.

We have a sandblaster and sand from Randy's Dad, so those towel covered chairs will be all sparkly and new looking some day....some....day.

Thanks Philip, I think seeing the garden everyday and knowing all it's flaws has kept me from really "seeing" it but this year it just looks so much better than it has in years.

Thanks Pianolady...after all these years of finding faults with it I am ready to say, "Yes, it is beautiful"

It looks great Toni! I get the 'eye rolls' from my daughters too and know exactly what you mean. One day I'll see your garden in a magazine :)

Wow Toni.... that looks gorgeous! You have so much more flowering up there already. But, I guess you know what to plant so you get the most enjoyment before the mean old sun bakes everything.
Note to self... Get more early blooming plants.
