You probably know it as Virginia Creeper. Mockingbirds guard these with every ounce of energy. In a few weeks they'll be ripe and the bird wars will begin.

Nice specimen. It has been so dry here that they shed their leaves. The neighbor came home from vacation and had to pick them all up with his bagger mower :scheming: he was sorta unhappy about it. Nothing I can do about it or which way the wind blows them. If they had blown into my yard/garden, they would still be there :D acting as mulch, sort of.

    Virginia creeper

It covers a Carya illinoisinses (pecan) 7 ft. stump. Left intentionally. Just after my Camphor Tree, this plant comes in second as supplying the most weed seeds coming up in the beds. Pre-emergent herbicide does little for them.

I find it interesting that this vine (and others), will not bloom and set seed unless they have been climbing. I would call that self-awareness with intention. Maybe plants do have consciousness.

And I find it interesting that butterflies show up to lay eggs on passiflora, which has never been planted here for 8 years. They just suddenly show up.
