Well... at least one bee on my Passion flowers. Today, I counted 6 open blooms on my Passion Flower! I've never seen that many opened at the same time. I love these cool flowers. Do you ever harvest fruit off of them? or does it have to be a specific variety?
Carolyn... I have no clue about the fruit. A friend's mom gave me a cutting last year. I had to keep it in a container because of where I lived then. It grew and produced a few flowers. I planted it this year and it's really been doing well. I like it because of the unique flowers, plus it's a host/nectar source for some butterflies. Maybe someone else here has more knowledge about the fruit aspect of it.
Thanks for sharing your passion flower. That bloom's really pretty, and I love the close-up photos. I wish we could grow them outside here.
Delightful series of fotos, Cheryl. It is good to see the bees enjoying the use of your passion flower climber. It is an intricate and beautiful bloom, isn't it. Thanks for showing this.
Oh Mother Nature was having some fun when she designed those flowers, don't you think? Great pictures of the bees!
Thanks everyone. The flowers are truly a work of art. I was at a friend's mom's house the other day (where my cutting originated) and her vines were everywhere! Carport, 3 fences, storage building... and loaded with blooms. She was happy to hear that my plant is thriving.
Cheryl, What great passionflowers! Those are honeybees, you know. Obviously you have made a great place for not only birds, but for bees, too. Passionflower is also called "Maypop" because it gets small, yellow fruit on it that tastes vaguely like bananas. It "pops" when squeezed, and is a favorite of children (if you can get them away from the video games.)
Jane... I'd always heard they were called Maypops because the blooms make a "pop" when they open. I'll have to watch for some fruit.
Hi Cheryl, a pollen laden bee truly covered!,..well captured,..and a lovely passion flower,..i planted seeds they started to grow but something ate them!!.
