My pear tree is loaded with pears, but they are hard as rocks. They never seem to get soft. I don't know whether to go ahead and pick them or just leave them. I have this problem every year. Any advice?

Pears are supposed to be picked while they are hard. They quickly ripen once picked. If you leave them on the tree to ripen the fruit has a mealy texture and doesn't taste very good.

You have a perserving pear Grammarbug. They never get soft. They make the best perserves as they don't cook to pieces so easy.
The soft pears get soft on my trees. My mom had both but they cut the perserving tree to place his mobile
home in but the soft juicy pear tree is still out there.
