Peonies...

    Good Morning,
    I have this BIG beautiful peonies bush and I was wondering if it would be possoble to propagate it? If so could someone tell me how to go about doing it, thanks. :-?

    HI!! I love peonies!! I think the best thing to do would be to wait until the late summer or early fall, dig around the bush and separate some of the "eyes" or new shoots from the main root. I'm always amazed at how deep they dig themselves sometimes. Maybe they do that with age or because of weather or???

    I agree with stratsmom - splitting it would be the way to go. I believe they do sulk for a year though when moved so don't be suprised it you don't get many flowers next year.

    When I had to move mine it was two years before it was back to its former self. It likes it better where it is now.

    Thank you all very much. I will wait until late summer and then try and seperate some of them for re-planting. Have a great weekend. :)

    I gave my mom a piece of my peonie plant right AFTER it finished blooming. I dug it up with the roots and planted it in her yard. the greenery died back of course , but they kept it watered. It came back full and strong the very next season.
