cherry trees are blooming ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) :-D What a wonderful day. A little sun was shining this morning and I needed sunglasses. We stopped early at the nursery and picked up a few flowers after getting lattes. There is nothing quite like walking around among the new plants while sipping a hot beverage. In moments our cart was full and I had made a dent in our pocket book so it was time to head up to the cabin. car load of plants ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) Lovely day for a drive along the canal. The water side open and wide. Hood Canal area ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) The mountain side lush and wild. Walk in Olympic Forest ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) Our visit to the cabin in January was great and the weather was so nice we didn't winterize. Two weeks later almost a foot of snow and temperatures down to -9 F. Well the old plastic pipes broke so we had to have them mended. Decided to also replace the old hot water heater that barely did a sink full of dishes and made for veeerrrry short showers. Gosh, maybe we can even take a leisurely bath now. The day was too perfect with the moss hanging green with tree ferns draping trunks of alder groves. Even the wild salal was beginning to brighten up. woods on the cabin lot ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) I love the moss ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) We got out the spring time flag and the official spring/summer flag was put into place. spring flag is up...officially spring ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) Then it was time to head home and find places for those new plants.... helleborus Mardi gras Double Mix ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) corydalis "purple leaf" ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) helleborus Mardi gras Double Mix ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden )
You certainly did have a wonderful day. Enjoyed the photos and love the Madi Gras helleborus. Thanks for sharing!
You definitely have spring fever Jewell. No cure though, you have to work through it, perhaps planting plants. Is the environment of the tree moss considered a temperate rain forest? Jerry
What a nice day... sipping lattes while shopping for flowers.... and then out to that lovely cabin... I couldn't design a nicer day if I tried.
Beautiful scenery, the moss makes the landscape in the 4th photo look like something out of my dreams, it is gorgeous. Let me get this straight...you have a wonderful cabin in the middle of a clearing surrounded by tall trees instead of other houses and you only go to for the weekend? That would be my main home...heck it would be my only home. Please take us along the next time you go there too.
What a delightful place you've got there. I love the surroundings and I'm with Toni. The hellebores are gorgeous. I'd love a Mardi Gras.
drive along Kennedy Creek Rd. ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) Thanks all for looking. Cherylad, Eileen and Droopy, come stay any time. You're all welcome to visit the cabin :-D . We love the sound of the rain on the in roof year round and the cool during the one week we get heat in the summer. Snow at Christmas time makes the holidays. We always take time to read lots of books so the cabin makes us relax and enjoy life that tends to get wound too tight. We debated about retiring up at the cabin, but I can't have a garden . I can't even have house plants because of the lack of light. It would take logging off the one lot (that we love with pilated, and downy woodpeckers, chipmunk and native squirrels) to have the limited sunlight available. There is also no soil, only glacial till (gravel). I'm not sure I will ever be willing to not get my hands dirty. some sort of tree fern ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) This year the dark, mossy back yard had young chantrelle mushrooms growing. Can't wait to see how they do this fall. chantrelle mushrooms past their prime ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) Toni the scenery in the 4th photo from the top down the road at what was a State Park. Because of moss gathers (and poachers) there aren't many areas that look like this anymore. The State sold this and many other parks. We are not sure what is happening with this little piece of nature. I hope to get back next week and get some photos of the fairy orchids that grow wild in one small patch there. If they haven't been disturbed they should be blooming. It is nice to get out to the woods and hiking trails and National Forest without having to camp on the rocky ground. That is what has made this little cabin such a joy. The lake and streams are also beautiful. Our old bodies appreciate a warm fire and bed with a matress. We are truly blessed. now what kind of flower/bush is this??wild cherry?? ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden )
Just outstanding Jewell.... I'm kind of speechless. How wonderful to have your garden at home and this gorgeous spot to escape to.
