There is a very hardy shrub, Peruvian Rock Rose (pavonia peruviana) that has burst into bloom with our recent rains. It is absolutely care-free, but I do cut it back in January or it would take over the yard. We brought one with us when we moved, and now we have four. We'd have more but I keep pulling up the extras!
Jane,..now that is very impressive,..look at all those blooms and care free into the bargain,..i have come across Rock Rose Bushes but all were the small version while yours is huge.
I have never seen one of those at garden centers, our database doesn't have it either. I have several of the Pavonia lasiopetala (Texas Rock Rose) they reseed very freely and come up in all sorts of places.
Toni, we have the Texas Rock Rose also, but it isn't as prolific as the Peruvian, at least for us. We got our orginal PRR at a small nursery in Gruene, TX, and that was the start of many plants. The PRR doesn't seem to be popular, perhaps because it gets so large, and doesn't fit into smaller gardens.
