I was thinking of starting Christmas cookies. I generally start with pfeffernusse for Thanksgiving and make it a couple more times before Christmas. But, I'm diabetic and dr isn't into cookies much now, especially spicy ones. So, I was undecided on whether to even make them this year. Thanksgiving went by without them. But, I have been married 50 years and not once in that 50 years have I not made pfeffernusse cookies. Do I break that tradition just because I don't need cookies. Does breaking a tradition bring bad luck? I could only make one batch of them and make them last or I could put them in the cookie baskets that I give to neighbors and friends. What to do? I made pfeffernusse cookies yesterday. I decided to make them just because I wanted to make them and not because of tradition. I always start cookie baking with pfeffernusse and it just didn't seem right not to do it now. dooley
Dooley, if you want to make pfeffernusse (and thank you for providing the spelling, I had not a clue--peppernews?) you go right ahead and enjoy making those cookies. Friends, neighbors, people at your bank, hardware store, hairdresser's, they will all enjoy your cookies that you enjoyed making. Christmas is about fun, and enjoyment, and sharing, so you go right ahead and have all the fun you want. I am sure there are folks here who will provide addresses for you to ship the extras to!
Your neighbours and friends are going to really enjoy those cookies if you decide to give them away. I always say thst if you enjoy doing something then go ahead and have fun.
By the time you get the name of that cookie out of your mouth, everyone would have eaten all the cookies. O.K. I looked up the Pfeffernusse cookie complete with mouthwatering pictures. Then I learned about Sinterklaas and that the cookies soften with age! Wow, one would think the opposite. An interesting start for the holiday season. Thank you Dooley. Jerry
Now I am sorry I am not at home.I will miss all of Dooley's goodies this year I missed them last year. She bakes all kinds of good baked goodies.
I'm glad you made them! I like pfeffernusse too, but since I'm a lousy cook I buy them. They're not bad tasting and we usually have to buy new batches several times before Christmas.
