No ax needed! I have a hydraulic splitter. You start the engine, put a piece of log on the rail, pull a handle and pick up the split wood and stack it! I have way more than I needed to fill the shed, so I am going to stack it on a pallett and then cover it with a tarp. Now watch it be a warm winter! :D

Better to have more than less. You are a lucky person Capt.

As for the axe.. I wanted to be a lumberjack for a day but I guess that won't happen now :(

    :)

They are talking heating fuel being 30% to 40% higher here this year. And since I heat with electric normally, that means my electric bill goes up too. I have a budget payment plan and pay $200 a month year around. Well if my heating costs goes up in the winter, then my budget goes up also and I pay more all year round. So the wood is to keep my electric bill down. I can heat the whole house with wood, as I have ceiling fans to move the heat and make it more efficient.

Take your axe out and whack something and pretend it's a tree! :p

Sounds like you have a great plan there. I like the idea of the ceiling fans, get every ounce of heat you can out of the wood.

Maybe I should approach the home shopping channels with an idea for a new work-out machine "The Lumberjack Simulator". What you get is an mechanical axe (blunt) attached to a frame and you can chop at a rubber block, with varying degrees of resistance of course :D Do you think my idea would catch on   :D

I have about 1/2 the wood spit and that shed is going to be so full, you can't even put saw dust in it!

Wood is definitely the way to go and if it is free so much the better. Ours was free. Well, if you don't count the new chain saaw to cut it. But, you have to divide that cost over the years that it lasts. We have no electric heat and no gas heat. There is only an electric heater in the bathroom. Dooley

I figure my heting bill at $50 per season. The wood is free, and all I pay for it gas and oil for the tractor, chain saw and wood splitter. I have had all of them long enough that they have paid for themselves over time. :D
