This is not me in the photo, it is my cousin Keith. The flowers are grown by my grandma Bernice.

Behind two of my Uncles and one of my Aunts, you see a 'portion' of the vegetable garden. That garden fed 17 plus the wives and children of those 17.

Wow that is a lot of people for that garden to feed. It is amazing at how little people were able to eat off before and now we have $100 grocery bills that don't seem to provide enough food for a family of four.

The garden must have had really good soil and keen people to work on it to feed so many. When I was young we didn't have a garden but we did have an allotment to grow our veggies on.

Who gave you this land? Was it a community garden type of thing?

My family settled on that land in the 1830's. Remained in the family until the 1980's when the government took it for a dam.

What a beautiful location and garden FBG. Were there high rolling hills all around the area? It's a shame that it got taken over.
You uncle and aunt looked very trendy in that last photo!

Eastern Kentucky, sort of central, near Paintsville, south of Ashland.
