Jeff is my moms bf. He has taken over his childhood home (his mom is in a nursing home, which is actually right next door to where I live). His parents were never much for gardening, though his dad used to grow tomatoes.

This Yew is one whole shrub o_O There are more, and theyre kind of taking over the house, so he said I can cut em down and pull em up and put in whatever I want :) Probably shrubs, but ones that will stay a decent size!

There is a front door somewhere behind all that green...

Not sure what this is, it kind of looks like a raspberry or something, but theres no thorns. It has 2 "canes" growing from one point and what appear to be tiny pink flowers. Is it a berry/shrub/weed?

Anyone know what this is? Its some kind of groundcover, variegated leaves. Id say about 4ft wide and 1 to 2ft high. Dont know if it flowers.

Cute story about Ezzy. My sister Sam fostered cats last year, and Es was one from a few months ago. Not long after Es went back to the Humane Society, Jeff went in looking for a cat, and he saw her, and now she's living with him and his other cat (cant remember its name) :) Shes a love-bug, adores being petted and scratched.

The ground cover looks like "gold tip" euonymous. I don't think it gets really big. Stays fairly managable.
Thanks for the pics, they are all great. Just about nothing is in bloom here yet. We are waiting and waiting and waiting....

The white tree is probably a dogwood. The variegated plant is a euonymus. The monster is a forsythia and it probably has lots of unneeded suckers and deadwood.

Looks like you're going to be very busy over there. Not only "building" your own garden area... but sprucing up around the entire yard. You're going to have so much fun!
Cute story about the cat... guess it was just meant to be in your life :-D
Love that bird feeder. Please do show us when the lights are repaired.
That one tall plant does look like some sort of berry. Guess time will tell, won't it?
Don't be afraid to tackle that pruning job. First I'd make sure what it was and when's the proper time to give it a "hair cut". My aunt has something similar to it, I just cut out the dead branches and then trimmed it up. It's still looking good a year later.
Can't wait to see what color lilies will be popping up!

Boy Bip, you are going to be busy for a while! I love those flowering trees ... they are probably Crabapple. Yew's are a nice, low maintenance shrub and I'd be tempted to trim those back hard and see how it looks. I love to prune and that Forsythia looks like a great project! The other shrub is definitely a Euonymous. I love that Buddha too...I hear rubbing his belly is good luck ;)

What fun Bip! Another garden! You're becoming a travelling gardener!
I'm a little inclined to agree with Netty on the yews (or maybe "some" of them), if you want some structure and winter interest in the beds. They don't bounce back from a hard pruning very quickly though, so plan for patience and plant some pretty things around them. This is a good time to prune the forsythia! The grass is gorgeous... I'm so excited for you!
Both kitty cats are pretty! I'm glad Esmerelda found a home.
