Pie-billed Grebe on our pond

    A Grebe shows up on our pond. A Pie-billed Grebe is a very lonely duck--one of the few solitary ducks. Here is one swimming and preening on our pond.

    Aha moment--I find that I've been mis-naming the pied-bill Grebe (thought the bill didn't resemble any pie I'd ever seen). The bill is bicolored, or pied. Sorry folks, from now on I'll consult my bird ID book before posting about a bird (unless the bird is a chicken--I'm very familiar with those!).
