Can anyone tell me if they pinch their delphiniums? I never have, but was wondering as I was cleaning up a flowerbed if it's something anyone does.

I never have. The thought of pinching off one of those pretty heads scares me  I do dead-head mine so they will re-bloom later in the summer :-D

I don't pinch mine either. Tell me, what would the benefit of pinching be?

Just wondering, because I have broken them before and never thought to see if they branched out from the leaf petioles or not, later in the season. I was just thinking about it when I was weeding around them the other day. Thats all. I don't do as much flower gardening as I do vegetable gardening, I seem to run out of day before I run out of work in the garden.

I pinch out side shoots of my Foxgloves so the energy all goes to the main flower,..likewise i pinch the top shoots on some of my rose bushes to encourage more bushiness and flowers on the remaining branches.

I just wish I could get them to grow, especially the cobalt blue ones. :(

Are you talking about the delphiniums? What zone are you in? I've read that they are short lived perrenials. I have 2 or 3 that are about 4 years old this summer. Should be a few more, maybe they just expired :-? I've bought them in the blooming stage, transplanted them and haven't had any trouble.
Do the bugs get them or will they just not grow?
