We found a dead cicada killer & collected it for my daughter to look at. It is a very big bug & my daughter is wary of it - even dead! It is about 2 inches long. See: http://ww2.lafayette.edu/~hollidac/cica ... rhome.html

Here are some pretty Mandevilla blooms. I like this red one and the yellow I found for the first time this year.

    Some double impatiens

Then, I got some pretty good shots of hummingbirds.

Here's the meanie chasing off another hummer - sorry my camera-work is poor in this one.

After he ran the other one off, he stood guard on top of this arbor

Then, he got back to his business

Very good photos of your little fellow, but that Cicada killer is definitely scary. You're sure getting the hang of that camera, aren't you?

I always called those big wasp a ground hornet for the lack of a name. Now I know what they are.You have now caused me to be on the hunt for yellow and red Mandevillas to go along with my two pink ones.
You captured your hummers perfect those dominant ones are holy terrors toward the others.

Lovely photos! :D I didn't like the cicada killer much, but your blooms are lovely, and the humming bird series is a delight.

I can see why your daughter was wary of that cicada killer as I would have been too. Love all the shots of your hummers and just wish we had such gorgeous little birds over here in Scotland.

Great pics. That cicada killer would have to be big in order to kill and transport a cicada.
The flowers and hummingbird fotos were a pure delight to see.
